LxG Graduate Student Paper Award
The Latinx Geographies Specialty Group is pleased to announce the second annual award for best graduate student paper on a topic pertaining to Latinx geographies. Papers submitted could address the structures that affect Latinx lives on local, national, and/or global scales, as well as the cultural, racial and/or political geographies of Latinx peoples. With support from Environment and Planning D: Society & Space, the winner will receive a $300 award and the opportunity to consult with a Society & Space editor for advice on manuscript submission to a peer-reviewed journal.
We recognize the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the lives of graduate students, and has disrupted research, writing and funding opportunities. This award is intended to support graduate students in getting feedback on their manuscripts in-progress and helping them navigate the publishing process. Therefore, we encourage graduate students to apply even if they feel their paper is not in a 'publishable' state yet, but holds promise.
For consideration, please submit papers as a PDF attachment to email@example.com by March 31, 2021. Papers must be between 5,000 to 8,000 words including references and notes; word count should be shortened commensurate with use of tables, images or other media. Submissions over the word count will not be considered. Only manuscripts written by a graduate student will be considered; co-authorship with research partners or other collaborators is encouraged, but co-authored papers with a faculty member are not eligible. Authors must be current LxG members and papers should be presented at the 2021 virtual AAG meeting. One (1) award will be given each year.
The results of the LxG Student Paper Award competition will be formally announced at the LxG Business Meeting, and the awardee's name and paper title will be forwarded to the AAG for publication in the AAG Newsletter.
2021 LxG Mutual-Aid Funding

Thus, the Latinx Geographies Collective is offering a mutual aid fund to support graduate students in this moment we are living, and we are able to offer three (3) $100 sums.
To apply, please fill out this google form by March 31, 2021. The only eligibility requirement is that you are a current Latinx Geographies Specialty Group member, or were a member in 2020 or 2019.
